Urban Habitat
When animals are preserved and mounted, their naturalhabitats are traded for a new place in our human environment.
Instead of the taxidermists poor artificial copy of their old habitat, ‘Domestic Habitat’ creates places in the interior where these animals can again feel at home. A series of furniture pieces that reminds us of the animals original living habitats. A batcher that switched his burrow for a blanket chest: a warm place where the animal can hide. Magpies and jackdaws nest in a vanity cabinet, keeping an eyeout for its beloved shiny trinkets. This way our home interiors become unique landscapes in which animals can start their second life.
